DIY Peel Off Base Coat

Glitter nail polishes are irresistible – so sparkly, shiny and gorgeous. But it’s so hard to remove from nails – it’s such pain in the neck!

glitter nail polish meme

Though there’s this foil method, it’s still time consuming and can be messy.

Finally, some genius came out with this DIY peel-off base coat idea that we glitter ladies can now enjoy beautiful, sparkly nails without worrying to remove it. Let’s get it started!

  • Elmer’s Glue
  • Empty Nail Polish Bottle
  • Acetone
  • Cotton pads and paper towels

Step 1: Clean your nail polish bottle

Fill the bottle with pure acetone about half way and gently shake for a minute or two. Any polish residue will melt. Repeat if required and rinse under lukewarm water.

Make sure cap, brush and bottle neck are clean, too. You may need cotton pads at this point.

Let dry on a piece of paper towel.

Step 2: Fill the bottle with glue

Fill the bottle with glue when it’s dry. The bottle does not have to be completely dry since the glue is water-based.

Step 3:

Try applying your new peel-off base coat for ideal consistency. If you find it too thick, add a few drops water until it’s thin enough to apply evenly on nails.

You can now use your new peel-off base coat instead of regular ones when applying glitter nail polish. Some important tips to follow:

  1. Make sure the glue is completely dry before applying nail polish
  2. This peel-off glue base coat won’t prevent staining. Use your regular base coat over the glue if you think the nail polish will cause stain on nails.

Last Minute Easy DIY Gift – Mason Jar Picture Frame Vase

Mother’s day is only two days away, if you hadn’t found anything for her, why not try this easy DIY project? Your mom will sure love it. Look at this picture, isn’t it lovely?

Supplies needed:

Let’s get it started!

Step 1: Place vinyl or painter’s taper over jar and paint.

To create your picture frame window on jar, place vinyl or painter’s tape on the area that you don’t want painted. What’s used in this picture is a decorative square in black vinyl. There were some gaps in vinyl, so it’s filled with painter’s tape. You could create a square using painter’s tape and decorative edge scissors. Paint the outside of the jar and immediately remove vinyl/sticker. You do not want to wait until the paint is dry or else it will be difficult to remove your sticker.

Step 2: Cut a picture to size and attach to jar with painter’s tape.

Try a few different pictures and pick the one you like best. Attach to jar using painter’s tape. The painter’s tape allows you to easily change out the picture.

Step 3: “Distress” the lettering on the jar.

Thie step is optional. Use a metal file and scrape off the paint where you want the lettering to show. It gives more characteristic and eye-catching factor on the jar.

Step 4: Seal the outside of the painted jar with clear spray paint.

The paint will easily scrape off of the jar if it is not sealed. To add durability to the paint, spray it with a clear spray paint. Let dry completely.

Step 5: Place paper cup inside jar to hold flowers.

Your picture will be ruined if fill the inside of the jar with water. Place a paper cup inside the jar, fill the cup with water, and place your flowers in the cup.

Alternatively, you can place an LED candle inside the jar for a different effect! Enjoy!

Striping brush, small dotting tool, one piece of crumpled up saran wrap.

Let’s begin!

Step 1) Paint your nails with 2 coats of Zoya Yummy. Top with quick dry top coat and let dry completely before moving on

Step 2) Take Zoya Yummy, OPI You’re Such A Budapest, and China Glazes Too Yacht To Handle and Neon & On & On and make a few dots using the polish brush. You don’t have to be careful here, they can overlap. Quickly move onto step 3 while they are very wet.Saran Wrap Butterfly Wing Nail Art Tutorial step 2

Step 3) Take your piece of saran wrap and scrunch it together into a messy ball. Take it and dab it all over the nail while they are still wet. Keep dabbing until you are happy with the color design. I’ve added more dots and redabbed if I didn’t like how it turned out. If you let the dots sit too long before dabbing, they start to “eat up” your base color and you may see your bare nail. Once you are happy with the design, add a coat of quick dry top coat to even out the nail and seal in the pretty design.Saran Wrap Butterfly Wing Nail Art Tutorial step 3

Step 4) Use your striping brush and Black Creme to outline one side of your nail, wrapping toward the tips and making the bottom right corner a thicker black line than the top right corner.

Step 5) Use the striping brush and Black Creme to draw a curved line from around the center of your cuticle to 2/3 the nail on the left side

Step 6) Use the striping brush and Black Creme to do a curved line in the opposite direction from the middle of the cuticle to half way down the right side of your nail. A diagonal curved line is added on each side where the line meets the right hand black side to make the saran wrapped sections appear more rounded and “wing like.”Saran Wrap Butterfly Wing Nail Art Tutorial step 6

Step 7) Draw another curved line with the striping brush and Black Creme and round out the edges of the saran wrap base.

Step 8) Do one final slightly curved line almost to the left edge of the nail with Black Creme and the striping brush.

Step 9) Take your small dotting tool and dip it into a dollop of Milani Silver Stilettos. Add dots along the right side and tip over the black section.Saran Wrap Butterfly Wing Nail Art Tutorial step 9

Don’t forget to add a thick, quick drying top coat to protect and seal in your design! Put a thick bead of top coat on the brush and gently spread it toward the tips and side, taking great care to not let the bristles touch the polish underneath. Thinner top coats can cause streaking or bleeding of the colors and the bristles drag lines through the design. YOU’RE DONE!

5 Steps for a Clean Makeup Bag

Spring is the perfect time for seasonal cleaning, and this year, make sure that cleaning includes your makeup bag. From expired lip gloss to ancient brushes, we recommend following these steps for de-cluttering your vanity. We know it’s a tedious process, but we tend to look on the bright side … the beauty-shopping spree you’ll get to do after!

First, de-clutter your makeup bag. Take some time to sort through all your makeup and beauty products. Toss anything you don’t use anymore and read on to see our guide to figure out what products may be expired.

Once a tube of your favorite mascara is open, oxygen affects the product and starts to collect bacteria. Ideally, every two to three months you should be replacing your mascara.

Lipsticks and lip gloss typically last one year or less. To prolong the use of your favorite lippy, avoid sharing and dispose of them if they become dry or change color.

foundation make up

Foundation should be replaced every 6 to 12 months. Keep your powders in a cool, dry place. Pressed powder has shelf life up to two years and loose powder can last up to three.

Prolong the life of makeup brushes by using a cleanser once or twice a month. Once you notice hairs starting to fall out, it’s time to toss them.

Then, figure out what’s missing. Too many eyeshadows and no more concealer? Make a list of what you no longer have. Finally, stock up on all the new must-haves you need (definitely the most fun part!).

  2. Use a stick to swirl nail polish around.
  3. Carefully submerge the drained egg into the water until completely covered, then quickly pull out.
  4. Set egg aside to dry. Scoop out nail polish from water surface between eggs, and repeat steps 1-4 for each.
  5. Tip: create an egg drying rack like the one pictured by poking t-pins through a thick foam board, about 1.5-inches apart.
